Countdown to baby.

3 weeks today until our baby is due to arrive. I stopped drinking alcohol 14 days ago, (I sound like a recovering addict), so that I am at Claires disposal. Claire went to a Hen night in Whitley Bay last weekend and had the "nothing to wear" dilemna. Good for her making the effort when all around her were getting drunk. She attended the pre pub crawl meal then ducked out before the real drinking started. I had a barbie back at the house with Sarah where we had Steak, Chicken and Hamburgers.
Claire has had a relatively perfect pregnancy up until now. The midwife found some protein in her urine and her blood pressure was slightly high. She referred us to the hospital where we went today for further tests. They took Claires blood pressure over a 3 hour period and monitored babys heartbeat. The heartbeat is always a joy to listen to, it races along at 140 beats per minute but occasionally speeds up to 175 when the baby is active. The most embarassing thing for Claire was the sample she had to have ready for todays visit. She had to do the toilet in a large bottle over a 24 hour period. The most embarassing thing for me was I had to carry it into the hospital.
All the tests were okay apart from traces of protein. We have to go back on Monday for the same tests, I`m pleased that they are keeping such a close eye on her. I know that the tests are to detect Pre - Eclampsia but I was not sure about the dangers. I searched on Google and read some scary stories about Mums who have developed PE. I read about one woman who lost her vision for 4 days due to swelling of the brain and she also had fluid on the lungs. It scares me but I know Claire is getting the best care there is, thank god for the National Health Service.
At work now and every time my phone rings I jump, I can recognise an internal ringtone and an external ringtone. Baby could come at any minute, these are exciting times.
